Ex-soldiers' reunion
Men who fought together in Normandy in June 1944, were reunited at Newtown on Friday, March 4.It was the first time that the ex-soldiers of the 7th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers were all together since the war.
There was a lot of catching up to do as the men, from Llanidloes, Newtown, Welshpool, Rhayader and Wrexham, joined in the celebrations at the annual St David's buffet dance organised by Newtown branch of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades Association.
One of the comrades, Mr Ron Ingram, has recently returned to Llanidloes to retire after 27 years in Swindon.
"We had a lot of sharpnel and stories to catch up on", said Mr Ted Taylor, brunch secretary. "We landed in Normandy in June, 1944, and were part of the 53 Welsh Division."It was the first time we had all been together since that occasion. It was a great evening".
